In “Soi 1”, his debut photobook, Japanese photographer Kotaro Yokomizo creates a visual chronicle of his chosen home, the city Chiang Mai in Thailand. Walking around in the city’s many soi (a Thai word used for small streets) of Chiang Mai every day, Yokomizo uses his camera to capture the atmospheres, oddities, textures, contrasts and scenes of Chiang Mai.

His pictures are the testimony of a time and place, of the city’s singularity but also similarities to other places. The photographer is interested by the distance beetween things, by the human nature but also by the scars made by history.
