Her objective is not merely to capture landscapes, but to unearth traces, clues hidden within the folds of these lands.
Natural elements take on a new form through her lens; each photograph is a reinvention of the landscape, the inspiration of the surrounding nature blending with pure invention.
Yet, beyond the natural beauty, there is a palpable strangeness. In these vast expanses, where one would expect to find humans, there are only replicas, creatures strangely familiar yet so distant from us.
Aliens and dinosaurs populate these solitary spaces, perhaps as an attempt to fill a void, to make this territory a little less deserted.
Louise Mutrel plays with scales, sometimes making the immense smaller, reducing mountains to piles of sand, canyons to tiny fissures, places where past and future intertwine.
