La trilogie du Bonheur is the first book by artist Marvin Bonheur and compiles 10 years of photographs taken in the Seine-Saint-Denis department where he grew up.
His perspective, sometimes tender, nostalgic or critical, bears witness to his experience in this unique territory.
Marvin Bonheur, born in August 1991, grew up in places often described as "no-go zones," where hope is rare and the atmosphere is heavy. With his friends, he hangs out, he plays, but very early on, he feels the negative waves linked to his identity and origins. In his childhood, he was angered by the idea that dreams were not for a young person from the neighborhood, whose sole purpose was to keep their feet on the pavement.
His series is divided into three parts, and the book is structured accordingly.
"Alzheimer," the first part, delves into his memories, capturing strong moments from his childhood and adolescence until his departure at the age of 21. The photographs are taken like snapshots of his memory, seeking to preserve and document the past.
The second chapter, "Therapy," explores the daily reality of young people today, denouncing injustices and demystifying the stereotypes of a culture often rejected by society. Marvin Bonheur approaches individuals, creates portraits and becomes aware of his attachment to "the forgotten."
"Renaissance," the last chapter, concludes the photographer's identity quest, evolving between the place that shaped him and the new perspectives he explores.
These photographs were taken as the photographer began working for sportswear brands, which makes his photography more aesthetic and self-assured. Marvin feels legitimate as a suburban artist, asserting his ability to represent this subject that is an integral part of his identity.
