In his first photography book Soi 1, Japanese photographer Kotaro Yokomizo creates a visual chronicle of his beloved city, Chiang Mai, Thailand. By walking daily through the many sois (Thai word for small streets), Yokomizo uses his camera to capture the atmospheres, oddities, textures, contrasts, and scenes of Chiang Mai.

His photos are a testament to a time and place, to the city's uniqueness but also to its similarities with other places. The photographer is interested in the distance between things, in human nature, and in the scars left by history.
